Carnival is here! And here is a reminder of the amazing Carnival that the “blocos” of Rio put at the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Here, Orquestra Voadora makes a carnival version of Know Your Enemy by Rage Against the Machine.
Carnival officially starts on the second week of February. But in Rio, the pre carnaval street parties have already started and among so many other great options of street Carnival parties, the called “Blocos de Rua”.
Formed on February 2008 from meetings of several blocos of street carnival in Rio de Janeiro, the Flying Orchestra lifted the first flights through the city streets -a ppropriating public space and sparking a renewal of the concept of ‘fanfare’ in Brazil.
With the idea of bringing the traditional format of brass bands and percussion to a modern and eclectic repertoire, the Rio Brassband surprised when presenting inspired reinterpretations of classics of Brazilian and world music and making their true sensory catharsis performances. It is worth mainly the sound power and versatility of the instruments that require the use of power to achieve great agglomerations, the Orquestra Voadora has gained admirers of all ages and social classes, the first test to the present day, statewide of Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Brasilia, Espirito Santo, and also by international air, with acclaimed performances by France, Portugal, Spain, England, Belgium and Colombia.
Among other blocos, another interesting one is Super Mario Bloco. Created in 2012 and parading through the hillsides of Santa Teresa, downtown Rio since the beggining, the bloco does reinterpretation of songs present in the series of the most famous plumber game.
