The Sargento Pimenta (Sgt Pepper) street carnival party, took their Beatles hits in samba rhythm to revelers who went to Flamengo in Rio’s South Zone, on the afternoon of the Carnival Monday(3). The band gave a presentation of about three hours and 30 minutes for a large audience as you can see on the picture below.

The revelers took the theme of the block to the Dress like the “boys from Liverpool” John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Star. Even Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, was represented at the Sergeant Pepper bloco.
The repertoire featured big Beatles hits such as “Twist and Shout”, “Love Me Do”, “All My Loving”, “Day Tripper”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “Hey, Jude” and, of course, “Sgt Peppers”. The song, incidentally, inspired the hymn of the block, with the lyrics sung to the music.
The “Bloco do Sargento Pimenta” is a musical project conceived to unify two worlds: Beatles’ songs and Brazilian rhythms. Using an original approach, new arrangements were created to put traditional songs in their very own style.
On the Bloco, you will hear “A Hard Day’s Night” as funk, “All My Loving” in marchinha rhythm, a samba version of “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”, among others. Check their Facebook page, to check their upcoming shows. Check the videos below for more samba style Beatles songs.
