The view from Lulas apartment in GuarujaA remodelling job that included even a private elevator inside former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s triplex apartment was supposedly paid by the construction company OAS, one of the building companies implicated in the corruption scandal uncovered by Operation Lava Jato. The information is on Veja Magazine this Saturday.

According to the magazine, the apartment on the Austurias beach in Guaruja (coast of São Paulo) was delivered to Lula da Silva family in 2014 and went into remodelling right away. The predicted changes included changing the porcelain and plaster finish, adding an office and an internal elevator.

Also according to the magazine, the whole renovation was paid by the OAS, which hired a company recognized in the market for completing high standards of work in a short time.

According to the report, the works were carried out with great discretion. The lock was changed every week, and when the property owners were in place, workers had to leave.

The existence of the apartment was revealed by the newspaper O Globo last December, but Lula denies that the property belongs to him or his family. Employees of the contractor, however, told the magazine that Lula is the owner of the property but it is for sale.

OAS and Lava Jato

According to Veja, the property is still in the OAS name, which would have ended the work at Lula’s request. The building was being built by Bancoop, which went bankrupt.

The OAS is one of the contractors surveyed in the operation Lava Jato, from brazilian Federal Police. Its executive and three of its main directors were arrested. Since the investigation was triggered, the company goes through a serious financial crisis and asked for judicial recovery.
