There is no place today in Brazil that presents a more promising development scenario than the Capital of Oil, Macaé. The city breathes oil and gas, and large companies have been doubling their investments in Macaé, making the city a major hub for the application of private resources and oil development in Brazil.
According to Petrobras, Macaé and region should receive about $ 226 billion in investments in the field of oil by 2012. The “pre-salt”, represents only 15% of planned investments by Petrobras for the city. Santos has only 15% of the pre-salt discovered. That means, much of the new wealth in Brazil is in Macaes seas. Macaé has over 19 oil fields already discovered and still not reported to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). Large international companies are setting up offices here, such as Schlumberger and Halliburton, for example. This commitment from the private sector requires a government counterpart.
There are four major works that need to be completed with urgency: the duplication of the highway Macaé-Rio das Ostras, including the stretch that runs through downtown Macaé, extension of water pipeline network and sewage from the city to provide infrastructure for the population, companies and investors, the construction of the port of Sao Joao da Barra, with implementation of rail transport of oil and ore, and the completion of Light Rail Vehicle (VLT), which will allow faster transportation of workers and people at the Macaé region.
Another noteworthy finding in the setting of Macaé today is the presence of more than 6000 college students in the city. With the establishment of major educational institutions and the strengthening of schools there, now the county can offer skilled training to those who are native born and those who come from outside. The educational center now has Cefet, UFRJ and Nupen, UFF, providing excellence in technical and higher education.
Moreover, Macaé currently has areas of events, hotels, some of the world’s leading networks, convention center and tourism events.
