We are still eight months for the World Cup to start, but try to buy airline tickets during the tournament and you will see: the price is ten times higher than on a normal day.
The airlines say the high prices to reflect the demand for the World Cup event, but the amount charged to the passenger is higher, for example, than tickets to Europe and to the United States in the same period.
One of the explanations given by the airlines is the law of supply and demand: if more people purchase, there are less places in – flight and the seats that remain become more expensive.
The rate rose mainly in the most popular parts such as air bridge between Congonhas ( Sao Paulo ) and Santos Dumont ( Rio ), the busiest route in Brazil.
Tourists who want to leave Rio and go to Sao Paulo to attend the opening of the World Cup on June 12 2014, will pay R$ 2,393(about U$ 1200!!) roundtrip in TAM. ( On Thursday, the value was R$ 350 higher, on Friday, the day that Folha has questioned the company, the price dropped.)
It is more expensive than going to Curacao in the Caribbean ( U.S. $ 1,900), or Buenos Aires ( U.S. $ 900) and a little less than the price to get to and from New York or Paris.
Another thing to know is, if you plan to travel by car or bus, you will probably take a long time and prices aren’t cheap either. They don’t reflect the actual distance or demand in this case.
