Video that shows aggression against dogs in a Rio pet shop causes stir in Brazil

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro investigates the complaint of mistreatment of dogs during bath time at Four Paws pet shop, located in the Engenho de Dentro neighborhood, in the north of the city. The images of the attacks were broadcast by “TV Globo” on the afternoon of Thursday (18).

According to a journalist who was neighbor of the person that appears in the images, a puppy of his aunt was serviced on site, and the family didnt understand why the dog Hanna always came back sad from her bath.

The police had to go to the site after attempted invasion by the crowd.

In the images, a boy, identified by customers as Daniel, appears attacking dogs. A labrador comes and gets its head blown with a bottle of shampoo and slaps on the muzzle. The docile animal only wags his tail.

On Friday (19), a team of Sanitary Surveillance of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall was on site to do a survey, but the establishment was closed, which prevented the verification of hygiene of the pet shop.

Mistreat, injure or arrest of wild animals, domestic or domesticated, is an ecological crime in Brazil, if convicted, the perpetrator of the abuse can get imprisonment of three months to one year plus fine.
A demonstration planned for 10 am this Saturday (20) in front of the pet shop, will be joined by animal advocates, activists and sympathizers against animal violence.

This video shows the person beating the dogs and his mom saying she didn’t know anything, even though she can be seen on the footage
