Brazilian sports ministry injects nearly R$ 6 million in X-Games contest and promises to build skateparks all over the country

With an injection of R$ 5 million, the Brazilian Sports Ministry had a presence in the realization of the X Games held this week in Foz do Iguaçu. According to the government, the support aims to offer a new status for extreme sports in Brazil. The focus of the folder is on the skateboard, one of the most widely practiced in the country with the promise of a dissemination plan by building a series of parks from north to south of the country.

The national secretary of High Performance Sports was in Foz do Iguacu on Wednesday, for the official launch of the international event. In diplomatic mission on behalf of the Minister Aldo Rebelo, the emissary of the government admitted that extreme sports are a priority for the folder.

According to the secretary, the design of skate parks across the country has the minister Rebelo engaged on it. They say the government is studying a model to be a financier of the sport parks, in partnership with local governments.

Skateboarding is currently one of the most popular sports in the country. According to a survey commissioned by the Brazilian Skate Association, in 2009, 5% to 7% of all brazilian households have a practitioner of the sport.
