The president of the Municipal Olympic Company, Maria Silvia Bastos announced on Tuesday her resignation from the company created to organize the Olympic Games in Brazil. She no longer will lead the company responsible for municipal works of the competitions.
Two weeks ago, the visit to the Brazilian city to follow the preparations for the 2016 Games, the Coordination Commission of the International Olympic Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016 had pressed for urgent definition of the responsibilities between the three matrix levels of government and organization.
Maria Silvia was one of the key leaders in the organization of the 2016 Olympic Games. Like her, the former Minister Marcio Fortes, who was chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, had resigned the post in August last year.
From 19 to 21 March, the commission of the IOC was in Rio de Janeiro to the sixth visit of inspection at the offices of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016. After three days in the city, members of the organization emphasized that a crucial meeting would take place in late March to define the division of responsibilities. But the meeting was postponed.
